Jaan you are right, the revenue gap between the top six and the likes of Everton ,West Ham and Leicester is the region of about £300m now.

Apparently, the owners some of the Spanish Clubs like Real Madrid are in favour because they are jealous of the success (the wealth) of the English Premier League. They believe this new pan European league will dominate world TV instead of the EPL. It's all about greed and envy.

It’s bad enough how CL funds have created a huge gap between the rich clubs and non European competition clubs.

They’d be absolutely no competition in the PL with 5 clubs that have a huge guaranteed revenue advantage over every other club.

They're not reinventing the game. They're just reinventing ways of getting more money, which all the owners of the other European clubs would jump at.

Surely other European clubs are not going entertain American owners of English clubs trying to reinvent the game.

Some reports suggest they want to play in both.

This is in addition to premier league (I.e essentially just a rethink of the champions league) or they actually leave the premier league???

The big clubs will see this has the holy grail which is effectively a closed shop therefore taking away any incentive from any billionaires from buying a club ouside the top 5 premiership clubs.

Americans don't understand English football. It's tribalism that drives half the passion of English and probably all European football. You can see it especially in games like WHU vs Totts but even games in games that don't have any local rivalry, there's a tribalistic edge that you wouldn't see in a game between Liverpool and Milan or PSG and Barca.

A European PL would probably be a soulless dud, mainly aimed at extracting money from Asian audiences, so if Manu U and Pool want to go, good riddance. The soul of English football is in the rivalry between the English clubs.

If the 'big six' want to be unavailable for midweek games the other 14 clubs won't allow it.

Much as I'd like it to, it won't happen. They needed to get that Big Progress shit through to have a hope in hell. Now they've tipped their hand. It's a 'super league' or the PL, not both. A super-league with only half the decent players in it , as many will refuse to turn their backs on an international career.

Good luck with the super league - mugs.

I’m completely ready for the so-called big clubs to fuck off.

The championship or first division was far more interesting. Or course the quality was lower but each team there had a decent chance of winning or getting promoted, or even getting relegated. The ground were full of real supporters paying reasonable prices and the players were mostly from the Home nations.

Of course it the fact you were second-tier made you want to get promoted but take out that prospect and you could just enjoy a decent season where we may actually win more games than we lose.

Of course that won’t happen as the “big clubs” want to have their cake and eat it. Giant squads to play multiple competitions with other domestic clubs plying the foil.

Let's face it sooner rather than later, something like this will happen and one day there will be a total break off.

We have had similar talk about this sort of thing before, Project Big Picture has not been far behind this. There was also the prospect of each team playing a league game abroad and/or the 39th game idea. I used to be very against it, I still am I guess, but due to the inevitability of it I now think whatever, just another nail in the coffin.

The two big positives are that we may end up being more competitive and it will give a big boost to lower league clubs as more people turn their back on modern top level football.

Very happy to see this happen, and take Chelsea and Man City while they're at it. Only one vital condition: excluded from English club competitions for a minimum of, say, 25 years, with any eventual return to be at the bottom of the pyramid.

I love the idea of the PL without those two teams and their tragic fans.

Presumably they couldn't compete in domestic cup competitions as they'd not have anything to do with the FA or FL anymore.

Agree with Pikey, good riddance to the greedy bastards. And under no circumstances must they be allowed to compete in any of the cup competitions in the UK.

Quite.
I ceased to give a single fuck about the Champions League more than a decade ago. Same old teams over and over and this will make it an epic borefest for anyone who has no club allegiance.
At least the NFL (and I assume this is the model) has 32 teams who theoretically have a chance.
I liked its predecessor before TV oney fucked it up where the like of Steau Bucharest could beat the big boys and win it.

Re: Man U and Liverpool in talks with FIFA to form a European PL
I really hope this happens. It's never going to work and it'd be enjoyable to have these clubs implode out of sheer greed.

They'd be isolated and redundant to domestic football fans. The fixtures would clash and it wouldn't be worth the time or money to follow it on TV.
